Loose Shingles in Your Yard? It May Be Time to Replace Your Roof

0

As a homeowner, you have a lot of maintenance tasks to worry about. Your roof is one that you may not think about too much as shingles tend to last for 20 to 30 years. However, you should be watching for some of these obvious signs that your roof is in need of replacement.

Shingle Granules in Your Gutter

Cleaning out your gutters a couple of times each year is a must to ensure that your roof works effectively. If you start to notice that you get a lot of granules in the gutter, it’s an indication of an aging roof. While some granules are always expected, there shouldn’t be layers of them stuck in your gutters. If you find your gutters full of granules, it’s time to call in your residential roofing expert.

Curling Shingles

While you may not always be looking at your roof, it’s a good idea to check it from time to time. For example, when you’re cleaning your gutters, you should be evaluating the state of your existing shingles. If you notice some curling or cupping of the shingle bottoms, it’s a clear indication that the shingles must be replaced. You want to get this fix done sooner rather than later as the shingles aren’t effectively doing their job when they are curled up.

Cracked Shingles

While you’re assessing the look of your shingles. Check to see if there is any cracking. This is very easy to see, especially on older roofs that need to be replaced. The cracking allows water to penetrate through the shingles and into the plywood layer of your roof. This is a problem that needs to be dealt with immediately so you don’t further damage your other roof components. The longer you wait to replace your roof, the more costly it’s going to be.

Loose Shingles

As a roof ages, curling and cracking can loosen the shingles. This can result in some shingles simply letting loose from your roof. You’ll notice them in your yard. If you’re noticing more and more shingles flying off of your roof, it’s time to get it replaced. Again, get it replaced sooner rather than later so you don’t increase the cost with unnecessary further damage to the underlayment wood.

Being a homeowner can be a stressful task. While it’s nice to have your own space, you have to ensure that you’re properly taking care of that space. When you notice any of the above conditions, it’s time to get to replacing your home’s roof.
